snippy: as far as early peeps that really did have a good idea what the future held, alvin and heidi toffler wrote a book that seems to be nailing it. future shock its called. even kicks orwell and huxley to the curb in specifics.

Fleedle: very prescient for 1970---Alvin Toffler argued that society is undergoing an enormous structural change, a revolution from an industrial society to a "super-industrial society". This change overwhelms people. He argues that the accelerated rate of technological and social change leaves people disconnected and suffering from "shattering stress and disorientation"—future shocked. Toffler stated that the majority of social problems are symptoms of future shock. In his discussion of the components of such shock he popularized the term "information overload."

snippy: it feels like the disconnect has been accelerating since the machine singularity. ordinary shellshocked peeps are just winging it more then ever. stability is gonna be a thing of the past. tough for us oldt folks but maybe the younger gens can cope. doesnt look like it so far tho.
