Ridgerunner: This is old news. Subaru has already stated officially it is cheaper for them to build their cars in Japan. You can thank unions for that. Nissan is closing three factories and reducing shifts at two US plants as part of a restructuring plan to address declining profitability and market share. The company is also offering buyouts to workers at three US plants. Nissan is reducing shifts at its Smyrna, Tennessee and Canton, Mississippi plants. The closures and cuts are a response to sluggish demand, particularly in the US, and competition from domestic brands in China. This is NOT a result of tariffs. This has been in the planning for months.
