The company is also offering buyouts to workers at three US plants. Nissan is reducing shifts at its Smyrna, Tennessee and Canton, Mississippi plants. The closures and cuts are a response to sluggish demand, particularly in the US, and competition from domestic brands in China. This is NOT a result of tariffs. This has been in the planning for months.
