The American Medical Association (AMA) supports gender-affirming care for transgender and gender-diverse people, and opposes the denial of health insurance based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The AMA has passed resolutions to protect access to evidence-based care for transgender and gender-diverse youth, and urges governors to oppose state legislation that would prohibit gender transition-related care for minor patients. The AMA also supports public and private health insurance coverage for treatment of gender dysphoria.
