Riverrat: I'm a descendant of slave owner. My great grandfather on my mom's side owned slaves to work his cotton plantation in TX. The story that has been passed down is he treated his slaves so good that when they were freed they didn't want to leave. At least that's the story from the white side. I really don't feel obligated to pay them any money. They can get it from my great grandfather's estate if they want some.
