HechoAmano: I remember actually having to physically dial a number, wait for the tone from the other modem, then flip a switch to get my modem to connect. Good times. Then if you were stupid enough to leave the switch in the on position after you were finished. You got to have a lovely visit from the phone guy to come out and see why your phones aren't working in your house to only discover you left the switch on and it didn't hang up your phone line.
