ITM: My understanding is that this shit is transferred by bodily fluids. In that case unless she pissed, sneezed snot, spit, puked or whatever, other passengers should be ok. I hope she didn't join the mile high club and eat a big hamburger....nevermind

Homer: he coughs in his hand then turns the door knob to the bathroom then you touch it then we all die....

Riverrat: I think their protocols for handling this stuff suck if the healthcare works keep getting it. It sounds like they really don't know what they are doing.

weave: I work in a church. I know one way this will spread. Imagine someone on this flight is a "true believer." They develop symptoms. Confessing a condition is giving in to the enemy. Therefore one must claim a healing from God and have faith you are OK. And just to be sure, go to a church healing service and let people pray for you and lay hands on you. God will heal you. No need to go to a hospital. I feel better already!

weave: Well rat, there's a lot of healthcare workers involved in dealing with a patient and they all aren't getting ill. But with something like this, even an error rate of 0.01% is enough to create a big problem.

Riverrat: Two in one hospital on one case is too many.

deez: pretty skeery. apparently using normal protective equipment isn't enough for the end stages of ebola, and they were not properly instructed on that while taking care of the guy in dallas. from what i read the secretions, and body fluids, etc are just pouring out of the person. they should have been double gloving, gown, everything. i think presby is a pretty reputable hospital, but they just weren't prepared along with 99% of the hospitals out there.
Wed, October 15th, 2014 @ 12:48:09 PM

Riverrat: The CDC says there are really only 4 hospitals in the country that can handle ebola cases. Regular hospital isolation procedures aren't good enough for this stuff. The guy should never have been admitted to that hospital.

deez: he should have never been allowed to leave liberia. i don't understand why they're letting anyone leave that country without going through some sort of quarantine. and maybe they need to change their screening questions to include have you been exposed to anyone with ebola type symptoms, not have you been exposed to anyone with ebola. that guy had helped take care of someone with it, but at the time, they didn't realize that's what it was because she was pregnant. although you would think ebola would be the first thing they would check for being as there have been thousands of deaths already.
