Last September my doctor prescribed me to get an MRI for my migraines. Shortly thereafter my insurance rejected the claim and I started getting bills for $2028. So I'm fighting with the insurance company until February when the MRI company starts to threaten to send me to a collection agency unless I pay them $2028 immediately ("we can put it on your charge card right now and make this go away")
So after many hours on the phone and getting my doctor to send in docs (that are lost, then relost, then resend it in) they finally approved it and the MRI company re-submitted.
To which the insurance company only paid them $388 on their pre-negotiated rate. So for everyone else -- it's $2028.

Yup... our govement did a bang up job with health care reform... dumbass's played right into the insurence compnay's hands.

This was going on long before healthcare reform. The insurance companies have always had lower negotiated rates then the non insured pay. My sister's eye doctor doesn't like the pre-negotiated rates (the take it or leave it rate) that the insurance company pays and makes her pay the difference.

The entire medical delivery system in the US is as broken as it is corrupt. Hard to believe a country so developed tolerates such a shoddy, expensive system.

The key word,Mr 555 is "Corrupt". To many under the table shenanigans going on...in government as well as the AMA. The AMA uses their clout and cash like a bunch of gangsters. Everybody wins and pockets get filled. It's all good except for the guy that needs a CAT scan/MRI or whatever.
