Maynard:
An advisory panel to the CDC unanimously voted to give a preferential recommendation to mRNA vaccines, like those made by Pfizer and Moderna, over the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to rare but serious blood clots.
The CDC temporarily halted Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine in April while scientists investigated the blood clots, which are known as "thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome."
Women between the ages of 30 and 49 are most affected by the blood clotting issue at a rate of about 1 in 100,000 shots.

UncleJesse:
Anyone who wants some epic clots can stay unvaccinated (from any manufacturer) and catch Covid.

Maynard:
All three vaccines available in the United States have had their setbacks, including reports of adverse events, but these have been rare. The FDA added warnings to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines following reports of rare cases of myocarditis and pericarditis after mRNA vaccination, particularly in male adolescents and young adults. The side effect is considered important but uncommon—arising in about 12.6 cases per million second doses administered.

Maynard:
For people who got Johnson & Johnson, the FDA has added two warnings to the vaccine. The first was this past April, after the vaccination was linked to a small number of cases of an uncommon, but potentially serious blood clotting disorder, prompting the agency to put a two-week pause on the vaccine while the issue was investigated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took note of these cases. Though only 6 people—all women between the ages of 18 and 48—out of a total of 6.8 million doses of the vaccine reported the rare blood clotting condition, the two agencies recommended that use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine be paused while scientists investigate the matter to determine whether a link truly exists between the vaccine and CVST. In late April, the FDA ended its recommended pause on the vaccine and added a warning label about an uncommon, but potentially serious, blood clotting disorder.

Maynard:
The second was in July, after reports linked the vaccine to Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. In both cases, the agency said the incidence was very rare, and the benefits of the vaccine still outweighed the risks.
