Speedy: I realized at this point we were going to have to do a little disassambly and reassembly before going any further. The key is tapered so it has to go in last, but the keyway does need to be lined up. Oh well.

Curious: looks like you need a key in that keyway. used to have an evinrude way back in the day that had bad timing. Used to go through a few woodruffs in a season.
