Homer:
Sweet old lady!

snippy:
i about shit me knickers Homre whenst i saw this peaking out from the overgrown forest here in the outback. the running gear is excellent. crazy beautiful 6 banger hercules/diamond t motor.

deez:
cool!

Mutts_Nuts:
nice one snippy!!!

Ridgerunner:
Cool find meng!

Ridgerunner:
Cool find meng!

UncleJesse:
Awesome.

ITM:
Time traveler

Riverrat:
Cool

snippy:
i traded 5 telephone poles for it. the guy needed to make a bridge with them.

Riverrat:
Sounds like you got the better end of that deal.

snippy:
this thing was in the brush for 25 years less then 5 miles from my house rats. i never had any idea!

Riverrat:
So it needs to be completely gone through from one end to the other. But it will be a nice truck when you get through.

snippy:
probably Rats.^the door on the other side is dented and one rear hub is stuck fast. the engine is fantastic looking, not stuck, nice oil, airfilter was full of oil not water. so im hoping it will start. its got strange dual points all the wires in the engine bay are coil steel wrapped, silver oldt school wires. the only critter chewed wires looks like some of the spark plug wires, and i noticed they were solid steel core. this was the pre plastic era.

Riverrat:
Dual point ignitions were always a bitch to get right. The easiest was on a distributer machine but I doubt you can find one of those anymore.

snippy:
ive synchronized magnetos before and have seen dual distributors with a set of points each but ive never see two sets of points in the same distributor. i guess im about to learn all about them.

KingHade:
Wow! Cool find! Good luck with it!

Riverrat:
On a dual point distributer you want to get the overall dwell correct and not worry so much about the point gap. Just make sure that the point gap is the same on each set of points. If the point gap is different you will be running off on set of points more then the other and burn that set up.

snippy:
thanks King! so does an ordinary dwell meter(snapon) work for that or does it need to be a special meter Rats?^

Deleted User:
Lift it 36 inches and put flames on it !

ITM:
Do a burn out

snippy:
i might try to get it to run then sell it. if i had some money and time id like to do this to it.

^^^^^ That one looks very nice, Snipz

Riverrat:
An ordinary dwell meter works with it.

gettheledout:
That's awesome!

BigJay:
Nice project truck Snips!

Homer:
Nice patina...

snippy:
according to all the info i can find, there are only 12 complete specimens of this truck known in the whole wide world. if anybody ever sees any data on these rigs that is contrary to that statistic please let me know.

BigJay:
Email pix to Gas Monkey Garage.

snippy:
ok ill try thanks BigJay!

Homer:
snipps can you send some more pixs in? (motor, interrrior so on) i love looking at that old stuff

Mutts_Nuts:
^fkn perv!!!

snippy:
ok ill go take a few more homre.

Homer:
Your the bestest snippy!!!

snippy:
hopefully they will show up Homre. ive sent them twice. im having some technical difficulties. wild thing wont be back for a few hours to help.

Mutts_Nuts:
^LOL!!!

Deleted User:
LOL @ Homie, the Perv !

snippy:
bump for posterity.

How is this project going?

snippy:
its going better and faster than i hoped. and the running gear turned out to be very nice. i unstuck the rear hub and found they still make the wheel cylinders. ive been having great luck so far finding the stuff i need for it mostly on ebay. just gotta be patient and keep my eyes out.

snippy:
i pulled that bed off of it and am mulling my options. the bed turned out is model A. fomoco.

ITM:
Put a steak bed on it....medium well done...ahem

snippy:
i might extend the cab 22 inches and put a shortened original pickup bed on it.

Riverrat:
If you're going to do that you might as well put a modern drive train and suspension in it to make it a better daily driver.

snippy:
well they made several extended cabs at the factory rats. ill try to find a pic. if they hadnt made them on this same wheelbase before, i wouldnt do it. but altogether ive seen about 20 pics of different ones. i havent see any survivors yet tho mine will be the only one. as it is i dont know of more than 15 model 80D's in the world right now. i want to keep the oldt running gear in it if at all possible.

snippy:
heres one same wheelbase with duals and extended cab from the factory.

Riverrat:
That looks like a lot of work. In my opinion you should leave it stock or do a full restomod but not go halfway.

snippy:
im not gonna be driving this too much rats. and try to understand this represents 1938. extra cabs were available in 1938. modern running gear from 80 years later was not an option. see? and as far as restoration thats what im doing. i started with the back brakes. im going thru every part. you might be surprised to find out how simple and really how few parts there are in this oldt girl. very straightforward. the wooden parts are more challenging then anything else on here for me.

snippy:
i also figured out this truck was light green from the factory with dark green pinstriping. so im going back to those colors. ditzler/ppg still has the numbers active.

Riverrat:
Most of the old stuff like that is a lot easier to work on but you don't find many of those engines with 200,000 miles on them and the handling and stopping kind of sucked. I'm a mechanic from back with carbs and points and condenser ignitions. The computerized cars are way out of my league. That thing would be fun to work on as a restoration.

snippy:
thats the way i feel. its a blast to work on. this truck was in very good mechanical shape whenst ditched in the bushes. the three speed is a crash box but its in perfect shape. no syncros. its 3/4 ton which if the cab was extended it would be the only one in the world and i could sell it at hemmings and retire.

snippy:
the odometer on this truck says 26000 miles. the speedometer mighta turned over but the running gear is super clean and nice. crazy nice.

snippy:
the engine oil was/is so clean it looks like i could spread it on toast and eat it. like fine honey.

snippy:
bump for goodt time memories. ive had alot of fun with and learned alot about the sacred diamond t's since the day in this pic.

Riverrat:
Snippy, what did you end up doing with this truck?
