My older son's cat had to be put to sleep last year, we figured she was 18+ years old. Poor thing could hardly get around. He took her to the vet to get her nails trimmed (she couldn't scratch post anymore) and I think they took one look at her and pitied the poor thing. They did some tests and her kidneys weren't doing well, it was time. Low maintenance thing.
Pretty sure a shitty neighbor kid kicked her about 10 years ago, she couldn't even walk when we got back from the vet. We picked her up, fed/water her while she lay on a blanket we put her on, picked her up to USE THE LITTER BOX FOR GAWD'S SAKE. She wasn't doing much better after a couple weeks, we decided we would hang on another week then probably put her down. Miraculously she started moving and limping around, took a long time, but she got over it. TLDR...we all loved that cat.
