BuckFutter: I learned on a 50-60 lb recurve. The first time I shot a compound I felt like I was cheating.

Riverrat: I've never shot a compound bow. I had a 45lb recurve for awhile. Now I have a 60lb recurve. I also have a 25lb target bow. The 45lb I got used. It had a little twist in it and would unstring itself on a regular basis while shooting it.
