Riverrat: A tree hit by lightning will generally have a gouge down the side where the lightning traveled and leave splinters of wood all over the place that exploded out of it. What ever it is it doesn't look healthy. Trees that have big forks like that in the middle of them are a problem because water and stuff can build up in there and cause the tree to rot out.
